Freedom blank Boomers in series opener, extend scoreless-innings streak to 19 in third straight win

After a shutout win in the previous finale, the Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, blanked the Schaumburg Boomers in the opener of a new series, landing a, 1-0, victory at Boomers Stadium on Tuesday night.

The shutout makes it nineteen straight scoreless innings for the Freedom pitching staff, which last allowed a run in the eighth inning on Saturday night.

Florence (46-29) started fast in the first inning, plating a run off Gunnar Kines (6-5) courtesy of an Isaac Benard double and an ensuing two-out RBI-single from Ricky Ramirez Jr.

The Boomers (38-34) starter, Kines, would not allow another run over his last five innings, earning his ninth straight quality-start in a tough-luck loss.

The lefty surrendered seven hits and struck out nine with one walk.

Scott Sebald (6-1) was phenomenal on the bump for the Freedom, besting his counterpart with seven shut-out innings before handing the ball to Sean Hughes in the eighth. Sebald scattered three hits and struck out four while walking only one.

Hughes and closer, Karl Craigie went the final two frames, one inning apiece en route to the, 1-0, victory.

Facing the minimum in the ninth, Craigie recorded his seventh save. The win marks the third in a row for Florence, who will take the field in the middle-game in the midst of a winning streak.

The teams will get back to work on Wednesday, throwing a pair of lefties in game two. The Freedom will send George Faue (1-1, 4.50) to the mound, opposite southpaw, Connor Reed (4-5, 3.68) of Schaumburg with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m. at Boomers Stadium.
