Hogue sets Thomas More single-game receiving record, Saints post 35-19 win at Cincinnati Christian

Senior wide receiver Mitchell Hogue set a Thomas More single-game record Saturday by hauling in 12 receptions during a 35-19 win at Cincinnati Christian.

Hogue also finished with 124 yards receiving and a touchdown. His 12 receptions eclipsed the previous Thomas More single-game record of 10, which had been accomplished five times (most recently by Goose Cohorn in 2015). Hogue is a graduate of Harrison (Ohio) High School.

Thomas More finished with 482 yards (241 rushing/241 passing) and improved to 2-3. Cincinnati Christian, which gained 443 total yards, dropped to 1-4.

Thomas More running backs Monalo Caldwell and Justin Durham combined for 228 yards and two touchdowns. Caldwell gained 131 yards on 24 carries with a score, while Durham rushed for 97 yards on eight carries and a game-clinching touchdown with 2:54 remaining.

Thomas More quarterback Justin Post was 23-of-28 passing for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore linebacker Peyton Van Horn led the Saints defense with 10 tackles.

The Saints owned a 14-0 lead after Da’marco Canty returned a punt 38-yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and settled for a 14-6 advantage at halftime. After Cincinnati Christian cut the lead to 14-12 with a touchdown, Thomas More extended its advantage to 21-12 when Post connected with Hogue for a 12-yard scoring pass late in the third quarter.

Cincinnati Christian made it a 21-19 game early in the fourth quarter when Jamar Nuby scored on a 74-yard touchdown run. Thomas More responded with an eight-play, 88-yard drive, capped by Caldwell’s 2-yard scoring run that gave the Saints a 28-19 edge.

Following a bye week, Thomas More plays at Campbellsville in a Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division clash at 7 p.m. on Oct. 12. Campbellsville currently owns a 1-3 overall record, and the Tigers play host to Georgetown (Ky.) next Saturday.
