Northern Kentucky University’s Institute for Talent Development and Gifted Studies invites high school girls across the region to be their own heroes at the Ninth Annual Young Women Lead (YWL) Conference on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
YWL, presented by Toyota, empowers high school girls to find strengths and reach their full potential. The all-day conference focuses on Leadership, Education and Development (LEAD) and features interactive breakout sessions and keynote speakers.
Former Miss Kansas Adrienne Bulinski will deliver the keynote, “Perseverance with Grit,” a presentation aimed at equipping students with tools to stay focused, lead effectively, overcome adversity and live an envisioned life.
“This conference has encouraged high school girls to reach higher levels of personal growth and development for nearly a decade now. Year after year, we see these girls impact communities with the lessons learned,” said Kimberly Code, NKU’s Gifted and Talented Education professor and YWL project manager. “This year’s theme is ‘Be Your Own Hero.’ We want these breakout sessions to show attendees that they have the potential to be real-life superheroes.”
After the keynote address, students can choose between eight interactive discussion panels and breakout sessions, all themed around female comic book characters. Each session is led by a successful woman and teaches important workforce success skills and leadership development processes.
