UNC Greensboro begins second half with 14-0 run, coasts to 67-50 win over injury-depleted NKU

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Angelo Allegri scored 12 points and Kyrin Galloway added 10 points as UNC Greensboro posted a 67-50 win over injury-depleted Northern Kentucky on Saturday night in Fleming Gymnasium.

James Dickey pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds and scored eight points for UNC Greensboro, which improved to 10-3. The Spartans opened the second half with a 14-0 run to build a 48-25 bulge and defeated the Norse in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Tyler Sharpe poured in a career-high 33 points for NKU, which dropped to 8-4. Sharpe buried six 3-pointers and was 10-for-24 from the field. He also added five rebounds and made all seven of his free throws.

UNC Greensboro built a 14-point lead in the first half before settling for a 34-25 advantage at the break. Michael Hueitt Jr. drained a trio of 3-pointers to ignite the Spartans during the opening 20 minutes. The sophomore guard finished the game with nine points.

Sharpe netted 16 points in the first half to keep NKU within striking distance. UNC Greensboro held NKU to 30.4 percent shooting from the field and won the rebounding battle by a 41-33 margin.

It marked the second straight game in which Sharpe has reached the 30-point mark. A week ago, he netted 30 points in a 79-64 win over Illinois State.

NKU played without leading scorer Dantez Walton, who is out indefinitely after suffering a chest injury earlier in the week. Walton averages 18.4 points per game and leads NKU in rebounding (7.2 rpg).

The Norse are also playing without standout guard Jalen Tate, who has missed the past nine games with a broken hand. Tate averages 8.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest.

NKU begins Horizon League play Dec. 28 with a 1 p.m. home game against Milwaukee.
