Recently, the five winners of this year’s Roebling Bridge photo contest enjoyed their prize: a trip to the top of the south tower.

The annual contest is an initiative of the Covington Cincinnati Suspension Bridge Committee (CCSBC). Each year, the contest offers several categories with separate entries for amateur and professional photographers. The 2022 contest’s categories were: Daytime images of the bridge, Nighttime images and Short Videos.

The contest committee Chair, Ivet Valencia, was very pleased with the entries and votes.

“We received a record number of submissions this year, as well as a record number of community members voting on them,” she said.

The 2022 winners are:

• Daytime Image, Amateur: Corrie Carswell
• Daytime Image, Professional: Tony Wagner
• Nighttime Image, Amateur: Jon Cecil
• Nighttime Image, Professional: Tony Wagner
• Short Video, Amateur: Ruth Ann Palmer
• Short Video, Professional: Zak Kauth

Each winning photographer received a large format print of their photograph, as well as a coveted trip up the south tower. The 230’ high towers are reached by climbing the metal staircase attached to the exterior of the stone structures. Once there, the photographers spent time taking shots of the rare views from that vantage point. They all agreed that the climb was well worth it.

The winning photos and videos can be seen on the CCSBC’s website RoeblingBridge.org.

In addition to engaging hundreds of community members during the photo submission and voting processes, seven businesses and one individual got involved as sponsors, for which the committee is very grateful. The sponsors are:

• Madison Photo Works
• Blinkers Tavern
• Dog Lovers Everywhere
• Roebling Point Books & Coffee
• Smoke Justis
• Molly Malone’s Irish Pub & Restaurant
• Keystone Bar & Grill in Covington
• Terri Wells

The CCSBC is a nonprofit organization founded in 1976 who’s dual mission is: (1) to support and enhance the Roebling Bridge. It is solely responsible for the flags flying on the towers and all the decorative lighting on the bridge. (2) promote public awareness of the Bridge’s historical and engineering significance.

According to CCBSC President Sherry Roth, the photo contest garners new interest in the Bridge and results in beautiful images that capture the beauty and majesty of the 155-year-old structure.
