Throughout the month of October, materials will be available at each branch to write letters or make cards for local veterans. Cards will be collected by library staff and delivered to the Fort Thomas VA Medical Center as well as local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) organizations just in time for Veterans Day on Nov. 11.

A handmade card is a simple yet heartfelt way to honor the service of local veterans to their country.

Materials are available in the children’s area of the Carrico/Fort Thomas, Newport, and Alexandria branches; in Cold Spring, the items are in the lounge area near the public computers.

In December, patrons can spread kindness with Cards for Seniors, which aims to get handmade greeting cards into the hands of local older adults who may be in need of some holiday cheer. Materials will be available at all branches starting Nov. 1 through Nov. 30.

Children can also write a letter to Santa Claus. Starting Dec.1, all branches will be stocked with templates kids may use to send their Christmas wishes to the North Pole. If preferred, they may submit their letters online. Letters should be submitted by Dec. 17 with the full address and name to give Santa enough time to write back before the big day.
