All “A” Classic: Brossart teams advance to 10th Region title games with dominant semifinal wins

The Brossart boys and girls basketball teams rolled to easy victories in the semifinals of the 10th Region All “A” Classic on Tuesday and they’ll play another double-header in the championship finals on Thursday at Paris High School.

The Mustangs’ opponents will be Bracken County in the girls title game at 6 p.m. and Paris in the boys game at 8 p.m. The winners will advance to All “A” Classic state tournaments Jan. 25-29 at Eastern Kentucky University.

The Brossart girls defeated Bracken County, 51-43, in a regular season game on Dec. 12. It will be the first meeting this season between the Brossart and Paris boys teams.

In the girls semifinal game, Brossart (11-5) led from start to finish in a 69-52 win over St. Patrick (9-6). The first half ended with the Mustangs ahead, 32-26. They pushed the margin to 56-31 in the third quarter and coasted to a 17-point victory.

Brossart sophomore guard Zoee Meyers scored 12 of her season-high 23 points in the first half. The other double-figure scorers for the Mustangs were seniors Bella Rowe (15), Molly Kramer (13) and Jill Planeaux (12).

Kramer snagged 11 rebounds to post her third double-double of the season The senior forward also had a team-high four assists.

Brossart shot 54 percent (7 of 13) from behind the arc with Meyers and Rowe each hitting three treys. The Mustangs also had a good night at the foul line, hitting 20 of 26 free throws.

In the boys semifinal game, Brossart outscored Calvary Christian, 23-3, in the second quarter and continued to pull away to post a 74-16 win. It was the eighth time this season that the Mustangs (11-4) topped the 70-point mark.

Brossart shot 51 percent (33 of 64) from the field and had 12 players in the scoring column. The leaders were sophomore guard Parker Mulberry with 11 points and senior forward Luke Schumacher with 10.

Calvary Christian (2-15) was held to less than 20 points for the sixth time this season after getting its first two victories in tournament games last week.
