Opinion — Kara Harp: A candidate for Bellevue City Council, she will encourage dialogue, good policy

I’m Kara Harp, and I’m enjoying meeting neighbors and new friends as a candidate for Bellevue City Council.

Kara Harp

My goals if I’m elected include a regular, candid dialogue between City Council, Bellevue citizens and business people, and support for causes and events that bring Bellevue residents together and attract visitors to our great little city. If you want to engage right now, I’d love to hear from you: karamharp3@gmail.com.

I want to help make good policy for our parks and playgrounds and enhance Bellevue’s walkability, a great advantage for us in the marketplace of cities. I want a dog park for Bellevue both because we need one to stay competitive with our neighbors and because I’m a dog lover, unabashed.

I respect the effort of our city administration to leverage local dollars to attract grants from other sources to give us the funds we need to operate.

I’m social media chair of the Bellevue Neighborhood Association and have served for three years as a member of the city planning commission, where consequential decisions about economic development are made. I’ve been happy to volunteer at Bellevue’s many civic events.

I’ve been a practicing attorney for ten years and teach part-time at Chase Law School. I came to Northern Kentucky to get a legal education at Chase, found Bellevue, bought a home, and found a neighborhood in a city I love.

It might take a bit to find my name on the ballot November 5. I’m last on the Bellevue ballot – luck of the draw.

But I’m hoping enough of the good people of Bellevue find my name and give me the chance to serve on City Council.
