Obituary For Alice Faye Gilvin

Alice Faye Works Gilvin, age 85, of Morning View, KY, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

Faye was a retired bus driver, faithfully serving her community for over 40 years. She was also a longtime member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Independence, KY, where she lovingly served on the Bereavement Committee. Known for her infectious personality, Faye truly never met a stranger and had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome.

She lived her entire life on Hempfling Road in southern Kenton County and was well known for leaving smiles wherever she went. Faye was a wonderful cook—especially famous for her fried chicken and Waldorf Astoria Cake—and she had a true green thumb, tending both beautiful flower beds and thriving vegetable gardens.

Over the years, Faye enjoyed singing, scrolling on her electronic tablet, shopping on QVC (always with a great sense of style), and caring for her beloved pets and farm animals. Above all else, she poured her heart, love, and vibrant personality into her family, whom she cherished deeply.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Shirlie Gilvin; her son, John Gilvin; father, Foster Works; mother, Mary Foster Pelley Works; siblings, Joy McKinley and John Works; and her niece, Pam Thornton.

Faye is lovingly survived by her sons, Mark Gilvin (Melissa) and Darrin Gilvin (Tamara); daughter-in-law, Judy Gilvin; grandchildren, Matt Gilvin (Kelsey), Bradly Gilvin (Karla), and Kara Tolliver (Brandon); her great-grandchildren, Tatum, Elowen, Clarke, Felisa, Foster, and Marcos; her niece, Kathleen Erion (Mark); and her great-nephews and great-niece, Bill Thornton (Kristie), Joe Thornton, Kyle Erion (Amy), and Kelly Janszen (Brandon).

Visitation for Faye will be held Monday, January 19, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, with her funeral service immediately following at noon, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 11969 Taylor Mill Road, Independence, KY 41051.

In memory of Faye, memorial contributions may be made to the Hickory Grove Baptist Church Building Fund.
