8/3/1950 - 7/31/2024
Obituary For Delores "Kay" Knigga
A beautiful soul, Delores “Kay” Knigga, of Boone County, KY passed from this life to the next on July 31, 2024. She was born in Alabama on August 3, 1950, the daughter of Charles and Vina Tucker. As a devoted and loving mother, Kay described the births of her children as the happiest moments of her life. Kay was lovably rambunctious, light-hearted, funny, and kind. She inspired and helped countless people through her work as an artist and registered nurse for over forty years. Throughout her adult life, Kay enthusiastically attended craft shows, providing members of the community inspirational works of art. She specialized in creating breathtakingly beautiful batiks and colorful silk scarves, but Kay also enjoyed creating pottery, acrylic art, and jewelry. Her nursing career focused on transitional care, but she also established the first geriatric floor at a local hospital and taught up-and-coming nurses at a nearby college. Kay loved animals, traveling, and meeting new people. Her love for travel took her to exciting and beautiful places, including Yellowstone and Dublin, Ireland. However, Kay had a particular love for the mountains near Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she grew up and always felt at home. Kay is survived by her two daughters, Katherine Hils Zapp (Brad) and Sarah (Daniel), as well as three grandchildren: Grant, Andie, and Aubree. She is also survived by her brother Charlie Tucker (Deb), numerous extended family members, and cherished friends. Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Vina Tucker, her first husband, David Hils, her second husband, Nick Knigga, and her beloved son, Scott Hils. Mass of Christian Burial will be private. Visitation will be from 9 AM – 10:30 AM with the Funeral Service to follow at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Stith Funeral Home, 7500 US 42, Florence, KY 41042. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, 2167 Dixie Highway, Fort Mitchell, KY 41017. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to help children facing cancer: https://www.stjude.org/give/cancer-donations.html.
