Obituary For Dorothy Mae colvin
Dorothy Mae Colvin (Gerdes), affectionately known by all as “Frankie,” age 83, of Ludlow/Ft. Wright, KY, passed away peacefully on February 19, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 29, 1941, in Covington, Kentucky, to Frank Gerdes and Dorothy Kidwell.
Frankie was a devoted wife, mother, MawMaw, and friend. She dedicated her life to her family, always providing love, wisdom, and unwavering support. On June 6, 1959, she married the love of her life, Gordon Colvin, and together they built a home filled with kindness, laughter, and cherished memories. Their marriage of over 65 years was a testament to love, devotion, and unwavering partnership.
Frankie spent many years working at Lincoln Income Life, Brendamour’s Sporting Goods, Dyke Industries, and Chef’s Choice Catering, where she continued to work until the age of 80. She was an avid trap shooter, enjoyed crocheting and knitting, loved spending time with her friends in the In and Out Club, and supporting her great-nieces and nephews’ activities. Frankie, an avid “Survivor” fan ran a Survivor League for over 20 years that her granddaughter’s now vow to continue in her memory. In recent years, she found joy in her workout classes and water aerobics at Esporta where she made many new friends.
She was her granddaughters’ biggest fan by supporting them in everything, from many dance recitals and successful volleyball careers. Frankie became an enthusiastic volleyball supporter of the NDA Pandas, NKYVC, University of Kentucky, and Wright State University. Above all, her favorite pastime was anything that involved her two granddaughters.
Her unwavering faith and love of God were central to her life. She cherished her church services and Bible study, always drawing strength from her faith.
Frankie will be remembered for her generous heart, warm smile, and ability to make everyone feel special. She never met a stranger. Her kindness left a lasting impact on all who crossed her path. She was always there at a moment’s notice for family, friends, and co-workers, embodying selflessness and love in everything she did.
Frankie is survived by her loving husband, Gordon; her son, Garren (Susan) Colvin; and her beloved granddaughters, Kylie Colvin (Nick Salmen) and Hannah Colvin. She also leaves behind her devoted sister, Marty Smiley and brothers, Junior and Rodger Kidwell, along with many extended family members, precious nieces and nephews, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
