Obituary For James Carl Sparrow

James Carl “Jim” Sparrow, age 77, of Crestview Hills, KY, passed away on July 1, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Jim was a devoted husband, proud father, adoring grandfather, a brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan; Jonathan and daughter-in-law Paige; and his treasured grandchildren, Gibson James, Isla Grey, and Wells Whitley. He also leaves behind his sister Jane (Steve) Naugler, and two nieces Gretchen Kintzel and Stacy Naugler and several grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Nina Sparrow, and niece Missy Naugler.

A proud alumnus of the University of Cincinnati, Jim remained an active supporter of his alma mater and his Pike fraternity, where he made lifelong friendships. He built a successful career in accounting, earning his CPA and becoming a partner at Rankin and Rankin, where his sharp mind and steady integrity earned the trust of clients and colleagues alike. Jim was deeply committed to his profession and community, serving as treasurer of the Northern Kentucky Salvation Army. He was also a past president of the Rotary Club of Covington, past president of the Kentucky Society of CPAs, and a longtime board member of the Kentucky State Board of Accountancy. His leadership and dedication left a lasting mark on every organization he touched.

Jim lived his life with quiet joy and deep dedication to the things he loved but some of his happiest moments were simple ones—golfing with his son, cheering from the sidelines at his grandkids’ sporting events and spending time in his garden. He was an avid Manchester United fan and kept local support to the Cincinnati Reds. Before he could fully enjoy retirement, he enjoyed sitting porch side at Ryland Lakes Country Club with his dog, Beamer, by his side. He lived a life marked by loyalty, kindness, and consistency.

Jim’s legacy is one of dedication—to his work, his values, and above all, his family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 9th from 11:30 to 2:00 at Linneman Funeral Homes, 30 Commonwealth Ave, Erlanger, KY 41018 with followed by a brief funeral service at the funeral home and a burial immediately following at Highlands cemetery.
