Obituary For James Walter Elam

James Walter Elam 73, of Melbourne, passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 25, 2025. He was the son of Robert Elam, Art Ritter, and Marian Ritter. He was a member of St. Joseph Camp Springs Church. Jim was a retired teacher from Silver Grove, and Campbell County Middle School. Through his career he continued to make an impact on children out of the classroom and onto the field by coaching his children and many students in baseball, basketball, and football. He had a skill of never forgetting a student he taught as the students didn’t forget him either. When he retired, he spent his years embracing his role as grandpa and never missed a sporting event or an opportunity to spend time with his family. Especially his loving wife. They spent a lot of time on the road traveling in their camper seeing all the states and the adventure each one had to offer. It was filled with many laughs and many miles. He loved golfing with his best friends; Mike Henry, Steve Sigmon, and Wally Reinhart. Jim had a voice and infectious laugh you would hear as soon as you entered the room. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Captain DeMarrero, Niece; Chelsea Rust. Nephews; Mark DeMarreo and Matt Snowball and close friend Mike Henry. James is survived by his wife of 47 years Mary Kay Elam. Daughter; Mandy (Ryan) Finke. Sons; Rob (Janine) Elam, Drew (Alexis) Elam, and Mike( Amanda) Elam. Brothers and sister; Tom(Julie) Ritter, Connie Demarrero, Craig (Kelly) Elam, Audrey (Kevin) Oldiges, Kent Elam, Joey (Sherrie) Ritter. Brother in laws John Snowball and Paul (Kim) Snowball. Grandchildren; Brooke, Hailey, Grant, Aubrey, Sammy, Maverick, Skyler, Rixon, Piper and Tucker. As well as a host of nieces and nephews that he adored and whom adored him. A Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, November 2nd, 2025 from 2-5pm at Cooper Funeral Home. Mass will be held immediately after at 6pm at St. Joseph Camp Springs. Burial will be private for the family.
