Obituary For John Joseph Jones
John Joseph Jones, 94 of Southgate, Ky., passed away to his heavenly reward on Sunday, June 11, 2023. John was a devoted and loving Husband, Father, Papaw, and Great-Grandfather. He was a proud Navy Veteran, having served 2 years at the Submarine Base in New London, Connecticut. He retired from Perry and Derrick Paint Company as Manufacturing Superintendent after 46 years of service. He graduated from Bellevue High School where he played football, basketball and baseball. He coached Little League Football and Knothole Baseball. He was a member of the American Legion, the Bellevue Vets, St. Therese Holy Name Society, as well as the Legion of Mary and the Night Adoration Society. He was a volunteer Fireman and Past-President of the Southgate Volunteer Fire Department. John was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 2009. He was also a member of the Kenton County Senior Golf League, which he greatly enjoyed. John and Mary Lou were high school sweethearts and had been married for 74 years. John leaves his wife, Mary Lou Schaffield Jones, daughters, Kathy Janson (Mike) of Glendale, Conni Tupes (Bill) of Ft. Thomas, Chris Burkart (Larry) of Liberty Township, and son Kevin Jones (Janice) of Taylor Mill. He also leaves 8 Grandchildren Erin Horton (James), Josh Hartman (Beth), Amanda Boehne (Billy), Alex Burkart (Ellen), Jacob Burkart (Kelsey), Brian Jones (Alix), Kyle Jones ( Shelby), and Michael Burkart (Alexa) and 9 Great-grandchildren and his brother, Bob Jones (Holly) as well as many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents John and Alice Jones, his sisters Ruthann Schwartz (Jim) and Dorothy Mae Farrell (Bernie) and his brother Tom Jones (Claire).
A visitation for John will take place at St. Thomas Church on Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 10:00am until 11:00am. Mass of Christian Burial will start at 11:00am. John will be laid to rest in the St. Stephen Mausoleum.
