Obituary For Joseph Daniel Mayer
Joseph Daniel “Danny” Mayer, age 42, passed away unexpectedly on June 10th, 2025. Danny was born in Cincinnati, OH on August 12th, 1982 to Karen (Groh) and Joe Mayer. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Karen.
Danny is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth (Elsener) Mayer and his children, Joseph, Kay, Michael, MaryAnne, Theresa, Agatha; parents, Joe and Maureen Mayer; brothers and sisters, Maria (Dave), Erin, Tim (Maria), Lauren (Eric), Patrick (MacKenzie), and Colleen (Daniel); and grandmother Margie Groh.
His educational journey started at St. Therese Southgate. After graduating from Newport Central Catholic High School, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Bellarmine University and then a Master’s Degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH.
While Danny had a very successful professional life in marketing, his legacy is found in his family and faith. Danny met the love of his life, Elizabeth (Elsener) Mayer, at Bellarmine University. Danny and Elizabeth were blessed with six children: Joseph, Kay, Michael, MaryAnne, Theresa, Agatha and three babies who are in heaven. He was a devoted father who taught his children to work hard, be honest and live with gratitude. Danny Mayer was a strong example for his family of living with integrity and of treating others with patience and kindness. Danny was active in his faith as both a parishioner at St. Joseph Crescent Springs and as a father. He led his family in prayer to end each day.
Danny loved time with his family. He spent much time chauffeuring his children around and cheering them on at their various sporting events. He dedicated time to dates with his daughters and “man time” with his sons. He loved big family parties with his large extended family, including his 54 adoring nieces and nephews. He was the ultimate host and a master chef. His ribs, fresh off the grill, and late night nachos made creatively with the ingredients available at the time, will be greatly missed. Danny was famous for wearing well-worn, decades old t-shirts, hats, and shoes.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025 from 3pm to 7pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crescent Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 14 at 10am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crescent Springs. Danny will be laid to rest at St. Stephen Cemetery in Fort Thomas, KY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Covington Catholic High School or Notre Dame Academy, where his children attend school.
