Obituary For Katheryn H. Cook
Port Charlotte, Florida - Katheryn H. Cook, 73, passed peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2024. She was born April 25th, 1950, to Daniel and Louise Holleran. Kathy is survived by her beloved husband of 27 years, Art Cook, their children, Lisa (Haley) Buerkley, Michelle (French) Class, Trevor Haley, Jeana (Cook) Adams of Northern Kentucky and Brian (Tiffany) Cook of Singapore. She is also survived by four sisters, Sandy (Jim) Reed of Foster, Rita (Mark) Simmons of Cynthiana, Lou Ann (Bobby) Perkins of Chatham, and Laura Ringler of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky and three brothers, Danny (Phyllis) Holleran, Hal (Sheri) Holleran of Brooksville and Paul (Yvonne) Holleran of DeFuniak Springs, Florida and her special sister-in-law, Chelle Sallee of Berlin, Kentucky. Kathy was a bonus mother to a few who have become family as well: Karen (Clark) Ruf of Crestview Hills, Kentucky and Vinay (Wendy) Mehta of Marietta, Georgia. Additionally, she thoroughly enjoyed creating memories with her grandchildren: Haley (James) Welsh, Hayden Buerkley, Caroline, Carson and Bailee Class, Hank and Wyatt Cook, Landon and Casey Wagner, Holden Adams, Shane Ruf, Max and Brandon Hosker and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, Carol Day and Mary Joe Warner and a brother, Patrick Holleran. Kathy’s caring nature expanded beyond family into a successful 42-year career in nursing. She received her Master’s degree in Nursing from Bellarmine University and worked as the Vice President of Administrative Services for St. Luke / St. Elizabeth Hospitals, then as the Chief Nursing Officer of the VA Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio until her retirement in 2018. Kathy and Art enjoyed their retirement by traveling the globe and making new friends, including the loving neighbors in Port Charlotte, Florida.
The family welcomes friends and family to join in a Celebration of Life ceremony on Saturday, May 4 from 11 am – 1 pm at the Clooney Community Center in Augusta, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the ALS Association via www.als.org or mailed to The ALS Association, P.O. Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037-0022.
