Her fascination with ancient cultures and medieval history remained a lifelong passion, but it was her calling to help the living that truly defined her career. For over 40 years, Mary Ann served as a Respiratory Therapist, a role she embraced with love and excellence. She specialized in neonatal and pediatric care, working at various esteemed institutions, including Chicago and Cincinnati Children's hospitals. Her last years of service were spent at Mercy Fairfield, where she continued to touch the lives of countless families with her expertise and kindness.
Beyond her professional achievements, Mary Ann was a beacon of support in her community. Her involvement with the Down Syndrome Big Buddies program showcased her dedication to disability advocacy. She was a familiar face at Buddy Walks, tirelessly setting up sponsorships and walking alongside individuals with Down Syndrome, including her beloved Boo. Her advocacy extended to human and indigenous rights, reflecting her deep sense of justice and compassion.
