Obituary For Saundra Kay Lockett
Saundra “Kay” Lockett, age 82, of Lakeside Park, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026.
Kay was the daughter of Rice W. Lear Sr. and Geneva Howard Lear, who preceded her in death. She dedicated many years of service to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, retiring as an Assistant Circuit Executive, a role she carried out with professionalism and pride.
A devoted sports fan, Kay especially loved University of Kentucky basketball and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Wildcats. She had a creative spirit and found great joy in cross-stitching and needlepoint, thoughtfully framing her work and gifting it to others. Her generosity extended beyond her crafts, as she supported many charitable causes throughout her life.
Above all, Kay treasured her family. She deeply loved her grandchildren and delighted in spending time with them, proudly known to them as “Grandma Kay.” Her warmth, kindness, and giving nature left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Kim (Shawn) Patton; her brother, Rice Jr. (Paula) Lear; her grandchildren, Zachary (Kim) Patton, Kayleigh (Evan Meenach) Patton, and Lexie Patton; and her great-grandchildren, Bennett and Stella Patton. She is also survived by her nieces, Nicole (Brandon) Short and their children, Hayden and Abigail, and Meredith Lear (Damien) Perkins and their children, Zola and Zavien.
Kay will be remembered for her love of family, her generous heart, and the quiet ways she brought beauty and kindness into the lives of others. She will be deeply missed.
Per Kay's request, she will be cremated with no services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association can be made in Kay's honor.
