Obituaries

Steven Benes, 70, of Union, KY, and former resident of McHenry, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 13, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. The son of the late Charles and Lillian {Winter} Benes, Steven was born in Chicago, IL, on September 21, 1952. He married the love of his life, Eloise {Freund} on April 5, 1981. Steven retired from the United States Postal Service after 37 years of service.

In his spare time, Steven enjoyed yardwork, watching movies, listening to music, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 42 years, Eloise Benes; children John Benes and Susan (Michael) Gregory; grandchildren Kaia Benes, Marcus Benes, Conor Gregory, Cora Gregory, and McKenzie Gregory; and sister Debra Atchison.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service will be held at 11:15 AM on Friday, August 18th at Independence Cemetery, 5358 Madison Pike Independence, KY 41051. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
