Obituary For Terry Lynn Moffitt
Terry Lynn Moffitt, nee Roberts, passed away on April 24, 2024 in Murrieta, CA at the age of 72. She was born on February 12, 1952 in Covington, KY to Roberta Lee "Bertie" Markesbery Roberts and Charles Alfred "Pig" Roberts.
Terry was a self-appointed oral historian, renowned for her exceptional memory for detail. She was a repository for the life stories of her family and friends, and it is only fitting that we share her story here.
Proudly a "Boone County girl," Terry went home from St. Elizabeth Hospital with her parents to their first apartment above Lucas Hardware on the corner of Main and Garrard Streets in Florence. They soon moved to St Jude Circle, where she spent her childhood before moving to O’Hara Road in Erlanger. She spoke fondly of early years spent with her father at his business, Roberts & Hudson Tire in Florence, and she later worked for him during her summers. She attended elementary and middle school at St. Paul Catholic School and graduated in 1970 from Boone County High School, where she was an active member of the Beta Club and Women of Boone.
Terry pursued her dream of becoming a teacher, graduating with distinction in 1974 from the University of Kentucky with a B.A. in Teaching with a focus in Speech and Hearing, followed by her Masters and Rank I from Northern Kentucky University from 1976 to 1982. In all these pursuits, she not only excelled but also cultivated lifelong personal and professional relationships that she held at the center of her success.
Terry was a beloved Speech and Language Pathologist whose career spanned several decades. She left a lasting impact on hundreds of students in the Boone County and Erlanger-Elsmere school districts throughout her career at Ockerman Elementary (1974-1984), Collins Elementary (1994-1996), Florence Elementary (1996-1999), and St. Henry, Arnett Elementary, and Early Learning Center/Head Start (2004-2019). Her love for children was evident in her interest in the small details of their lives and her eagerness to adapt her teaching to help each of her students excel in their own unique way.
Known for her warm, vibrant personality and infectious laugh, Terry knew two types of people: friends and soon-to-be friends. She never missed a party and loved to celebrate holidays. Her greatest joy was to come to Christmas with a huge bag of gifts for each grandchild and to watch their happiness unfold. She approached life with the heart of a child, seeing the world with wonder and joy. She found happiness in small things, particularly her love of reading, music, art, flowers, board games, Disney, and animals. Above all, she loved being a mother and “Nana” and would gladly tell anyone about her family for as long as they would listen.
She is survived by her daughter Suzanne (Greg) Temesvari, son Matthew (Shelby) Moffitt, grandchildren Jack and Eva Temesvari and Cameron Moffitt, sister Julie (J.R.) Shinkle, and niece Amber (Adam) Graue. Terry was preceded in death by her parents, Roberta and Al Roberts, brother Timothy Roberts, nephew Craig Shinkle, and daughter Katie Elizabeth Moffitt.
Terry’s family will host a Celebration of Life on May 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Boone Valley Farm, 15611 Porter Rd, Verona, KY 41092.
