Obituary For Wallace Clayburne Burkhart

Wallace Clayburne Burkhart, 93, dreamed the sleep of the eternal at his residence on September 17, 2025.

Born on January 3, 1932, in Kenmont Holler, Hazard, KY, he was the son of the late Henderson & Lilly Burkhart.

He was affectionately known as either “Wally” or “Joker” to most everyone who loved him. Possessing a beautiful smile and a disarming demeanor, he was hilarious, kind, and was always making people snicker with his one-liners. Wally adored cheering on the New York Giants as well as the UK Wildcats. He retired from Stanley Tools after nearly 40 years as a machinist. Wally was a proud United States Army veteran; having served 2 tours in Korea. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart but as the story goes, he nobly returned the medal upon receipt.

Preceding Wally in death are his wife Eileen Burkhart, daughter Lisa Pfaehler, son Richard Burkhart, his parents as well as 8 brothers and sisters.

Wally was the beloved dad of Delinda (Gary) Lajoie as well as father-in-law to Carl Pfaehler; treasured grandpa to Tanya (Corey) Staton and Keith (Kristin) Lajoie; and dear great grandpa to Charlotte Staton. Wally will surely also be missed by his devoted pup Daisy.

No formal services are being held at this time. The family encourages you to offer either a memorial donation to or volunteer in Wally’s honor at VA Cincinnati Healthcare.

Wally lived in the community that my husband and I live in. I would see him outside and he always said Hello and had a big smile on his face. I will miss seeing him in his jeep. God Bless him. The Spanglers
