Thomas More College’s Marching Saints, new for the 2014-2015 academic year, will be represented at the Kentucky Music Educators Association annual conference in February for the first time.
Dr. Mark Lynn, Coordinator of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Band, recently announced the membership for the 2015 KIB. Fourteen colleges and universities from across Kentucky will be represented.
Two students from TMC have been chosen to participate in the KMEA 2015 Kentucky Intercollegiate Band: Kristin Gibson, clarinet (Owenton) and Brandon Shuey, trombone (Blue Springs, Missouri). A complete list of band members can be found here.
“These two young people represent some of the great things going on here at Thomas More College. They will do a fantastic job,” commented Randy Webb, Director of Bands.
Students were selected through a competitive application process. Band Director Randy Webb nominated the Thomas More students. Each band director may nominate up to 20% of their total concert/symphonic band membership.
The 105-member Kentucky Intercollegiate Band is comprised of some of the finest college and university band members from across the Commonwealth. The band will perform at Whitney Hall of the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts during the KMEA Conference scheduled for Feb. 4 – 5.
The Kentucky Intercollegiate Band was formed in 1985 by the college and university band directors of the Commonwealth. The goal of the ensemble is to provide a plethora of strong musical experiences for collegiate wind and percussion students. Each year, the KIB affords selected students the opportunity to rehearse and perform exceptional wind literature under the direction of an outstanding guest conductor.
The Intercollegiate Band serves as a showcase for the high level of performance of the college and university band programs in Kentucky. Additionally, as the large majority of the KIB participants are former students of Kentucky high schools, the ensemble also spotlights the depth and quality of public school band programs throughout the Commonwealth.
Students interested in joining the Marching Saints can attend a “Music Experience Day” Feb. 14 on campus. For more information about Thomas More College’s Marching Saints, click here.
