Brig. Gen. Peggy C. Combs, Fort Knox post commander, will be the keynote speaker at the Kentucky Women Veterans Unite 2015 conference on Saturday, April 11 in Louisville.
“This conference will bring together all the elements of Kentucky’s Year of the Woman Veteran,” said Heather French Henry, commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs, which is sponsoring the conference. “We will cover benefits and services, healthcare and housing, jobs and networking and more.
“We want to reach every one of Kentucky’s 33,000 women veterans, and we hope this conference will help us do that.”
The conference will feature a welcoming video from First Lady Jane Beshear, a showing of the documentary Service: When Women Come Marching Home and sessions on employment and benefits, starting a women veterans support group, combating homelessness and dealing with PTSD, military sexual trauma and other mental health problems.
“Kentucky’s women veterans, like all our veterans, are a huge potential asset not just to the Commonwealth as a whole, but to each community in which they live and work,” Henry said. “In 2015 the Year of the Woman Veteran, we will make sure that potential is neither wasted nor overlooked.”
The conference begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 11 at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium on South Floyd St. in Louisville. It will conclude at 3:45 p.m.
Admission is free, including lunch, but requires pre-registration because space is limited.
