Military Research Workshop March 21 features military records and research expert Craig R. Scott


The Kenton County Public Library is sponsoring a day-long Military Research Workshop to be held Saturday, March 21 at the Covington Branch Library, located at 502 Scott Boulevard in Covington. Nationally-known military research expert Craig R. Scott, CG will present four programs devoted to records and research strategies that will cover the American Revolution, The War of 1812, The Civil War, and military pension records.
 
In addition to his role as CEO and president of Heritage Books, Inc., Craig Scott has spent decades honing his military research expertise and teaching these skills within the genealogical community. He has coordinated military courses at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, the National Genealogical Society, the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh, and Samford University’s Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research in Birmingham, Alabama. His books include Understanding Revolutionary War and Invalid Pension Ledgers 1818-1872 and Pension Payment Vouchers They Represent and The “Lost” Pensions: Settled Accounts of the Act of 6 April 1838.
 
The workshop is free, though registration is required. Free parking is available in the library’s parking lot, just south of the building. Refreshments provided. Lunch on your own.

9 a.m. – Doors open for registration.
 
9:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m. – Researching Your Revolutionary War Ancestor
Discover how to properly use online and textual sources to determine the service of your Revolutionary War ancestor.
 
10:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. – break
 
11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Researching Your War of 1812 Ancestor
Learn how to properly use online and textual sources to determine the service of your War of 1812 ancestor.
 
1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. – Pension Research : You Stopped Too Soon
Many researchers end their pension research before they should. They miss the information that relates to pensions that are not contained in the pensions.
 
2:30 – 3 p.m. – break
 
3 – 4 p.m. Researching Your Civil War Ancestor
Learn how to properly use online and textual sources to determine the service of your Civil War ancestor. Both Union and Confederate sources will be addressed.
