National Association of Counties (NACo) President Sallie Clark appointed Boone County Judge/Executive Gary Moore to a one-year term as chair of NACo’s Environment, Energy and Land Use Steering Committee.
Clark, commissioner, El Paso County, Colo., made her policy committee leadership appointments shortly after being sworn in as NACo’s president during its Annual Conference, July 10-13, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

“It is an honor to lead NACo’s Environment, Energy and Land use Steering Committee as the wide range of issues within the purview of this committee have a significant impact on our county governments and our citizens,” Moore said. “Counties are working to manage land use and natural resources responsibly, while ensuring the safety and security of our communities.
Active in NACo since 2000, Moore has held several leadership positions on the Transportation Steering Committee and served as a member of the Healthy Counties Initiative Advisory Board.
We need to continue to work with our federal partners to make sure federal environmental regulations do not hinder our ability to promote economic development while being good stewards of our resources,” Moore said. “I am excited to bring my experiences to the committee and to bring innovative ideas and initiatives back to Boone County.”
The Environment, Energy and Land Use Steering Committee is responsible for NACo policy on all matters pertaining to air, water, energy and land use. These include water resource management, air quality standards, waste handling, national energy policy, renewable energy, electricity utilities, brownfields, parks and recreation, eminent domain and coastal management.
