Northern Kentucky men’s golf schedule includes first home tournament since 2012

The 2015-16 Northern Kentucky men’s golf schedule is highlighted by NKU’s first home tournament since the spring of 2012 and features many opponents within the same regional footprint.

“It’s exciting to host our own tournament again this year,” said head coach Daryl Landrum. “It’s even more exciting considering the field is comprised of all local teams and Horizon League foes.”

The Norse will host the NKU Fall Classic at Elks Run in Batavia, Ohio, on Sept. 27-28. Dayton and Evansville will join Horizon League members Wright State, Detroit, Cleveland State, Youngstown State and Green Bay in the tournament.

The season opens for the Norse in Verona, N.Y., at Missouri’s Turning Stone-Tiger Invitational. Two other events, the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational (Sept. 14-15) and St. Bonaventure’s Leo Keenan Invitational (Sept. 20-21), precede Northern Kentucky’s home tourney.

Cleveland State will host the Norse in the CSU Invitational Oct. 5-6 in Cleveland, Ohio, before NKU closes the fall campaign Oct. 19-20 in the Dayton Flyers Invitational.

The spring slate kicks off in the Houston Baptist Invitational, scheduled for Feb. 29-March 1 in Houston, Texas.

NKU will then spend spring break in Jacksonville, Florida, competing in consecutive tournaments hosted by regional foe Butler. The Benbow Invitational will take place March 7-8 and will be immediately followed by the Bulldog Florida Invitational on March 9-10.

After a second-place showing last year, Northern Kentucky returns to the Wright State Intercollegiate on April 4-5. The Norse tied Valparaiso atop the leaderboard at the end of play, but settled for second after dropping the sudden death playoff. Clayton Portz led NKU with a second-place effort individually.

The final regular-season tune-up for NKU comes at Tennessee State’s Big Blue Intercollegiate. The two-day event will be held April 11-12 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Northern Kentucky will then embark on its first Horizon League Championship, scheduled for April 22-24 in Orlando, Florida.
