Singer, keyboardist, band leader and song stylist Cheryl Renée brings her Blues Band to Devou Park on Aug. 20 for “Bourbon and Blues Redux,” the finale of the 2015 Music@BCM concert series.
Cincinnati-born Renée grew up listening to local rock and R&B stations during the 1960s. She began performing professionally at age 17 and toured for more than a decade with top 40 and show bands in the U.S. and Canada, and overseas with the U.S.O, settling in Boston performing at the opening of the original House of Blues. When she returned to the Midwest, she joined local band, Them Bones, releasing a CD with them in 2008. She has won several music awards, including third place at the International Blues Challenge in 2010.
Charles Sawyer, author of The Arrival of B.B. King, calls Renee “a meteorite… She burns with fiery intensity. She glows red hot and she devastates all in her path.”
The Bourbon and Blues Redux concert takes place outdoors in Behringer-Crawford Museum’s amphitheater at 1600 Montague Road-Devou Park in Covington. In the event of rain, the performance moves indoors. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the performance from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 3-12. BCM members are admitted free with a paying guest.
Adult beverages will be available for purchase; Behringer Crawford members will receive one free drink ticket. Concertgoers also can purchase food from Colonial Cottage and support local youth and community organizations in the process.
