Judge-Executive Pendery reminds Campbell taxpayers of new rates, discount if paid in November

In his latest newsletter, Judge-Executive Steve Pendery reminds Campbell County taxpayers of new tax rates that will appear in tax bills they will received (or have received) this month.

He writes:

“In August, the Fiscal Court took action to establish its tax rates for 2015. With your property tax bill en route to you or having already arrived, here are some thoughts and reminders.

“Every year, all public agencies with taxing authority set the ad valorem rates for taxing real and tangible property. For Campbell County Fiscal Court (your general purpose county government), the 2015 rates break down as follows for each $100 of assessed value.

Real Property: 16.20 cents
Tangible Personal Property: 24.30 cents
Motor Vehicles: 13.10 cents
Watercraft: 13.10 cents

“In August and September when this is done, we encourage and seek public comment. During this comment period, we always emphasize a basic point: your so-called “county” property tax bill includes charges for many taxing authorities; the Fiscal Court is just one small part. As this sample chart shows, for a property in unincorporated Campbell County in 2014, the Fiscal Court’s component of an average tax bill was only 13.2% of the entire amount. Your total property tax bill therefore includes school taxes, the state’s share, and more.

“As the close of 2015 draws near, remember that bills are due by December 31, 2015, and they will become delinquent after this date. If you pay between November 1 and November 30, a two (2) percent discount will apply. Questions about paying your bill can be directed to Sheriff Mike Jansen’s office at (859) 292-3833.”
