St. Elizabeth Ft. Thomas, Florence, Edgewood and Grant have been recognized as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in America.
The hospitals were recognized for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgery, children’s asthma, stroke and venous thromboembolism, as well as inpatient psychiatric services.
St. Elizabeth has four of the 1,043 hospitals in the United States to achieve Top Performer distinction. This is the fourth year a St. Elizabeth hospital has been recognized as a Top Performer.
“We understand what matters most to patients at St. Elizabeth is the quality and safety of the care they receive. That’s why we have made it a top priority to improve positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes,” Garren Colvin, St. Elizabeth President and CEO.
The Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for improving performance on evidence-based interventions that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions.
Hospitals named as a Top Performer must achieve cumulative performance of 95 percent or above all reported accountability measures, achieve performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there are at least 30 denominator cases, and have at least one core measure set that has a composite rate of 95 percent or above.
A 95 percent score means a hospital provided an evidence-based practice 95 times out of 100 opportunities. Each accountability measure represents an evidence-based practice. For example, giving aspirin at arrival for heart attack patients, giving antibiotics one hour before surgery, and providing a home management plan for children with asthma.
“Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality healthcare,” said Dr. Mark Chassin, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Joint Commission. “I commend the efforts of St. Elizabeth for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions.”
