The 34th annual Kentucky Book Fair Nov. 14 will bring more than 200 authors from all genres to the Frankfort Convention Center. This annual celebration of reading and writing runs from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The fifth annual Kids and Teens Day the day before, Nov. 13, is from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., also at the convention center.
Here are a few of the highlights:
‣ Congressman Steve Israel (D-New York) will sign his novel, “The Global War on Morris,” as well as take part in a discussion with former U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler about their congressional experiences (10:30 a.m.) in the convention center’s Green Room.
‣ Peter Slevin is the author of “Michelle Obama: A Life.” He will discuss the book at 11:30 a.m. in the Green Room.
‣ Cheryl Della Pietra is the author of “Gonzo Girl,” inspired by her experience as an assistant to the legendary Hunter S. Thompson. She will speak at 9:30 a.m. in the Kentucky River Room.
‣ Davis Miller is the author of “Approaching Ali: A Reclamation in Three Acts,” focuses on the life of Muhammad Ali. He will speak at 10:30 a.m. in the Kentucky River Room.
‣ John Temple, a journalism professor at West Virginia University, is the author of “American Pain: How A Young Felon and His Ring of Doctors Unleashed America’s Deadliest Drug Epidemic,” about the pill mill between Kentucky and Florida. He will speak at 11:30 a.m. in the Kentucky River Room.
‣ Robert Crane and Christopher Fryer co-authored “Sex, Celebrity and My Father’s Unsolved Murder.” Crane is the son of Bob Crane, who starred in the “Hogan’s Heroes” sitcom. They will speak at 12:30 p.m. in the Kentucky River Room.
‣ John Hardin, Karen Cotton McDaniel and Gerald L. Smith, co-editors of the “Kentucky African American Encyclopedia.” They will speak at 2 p.m. in the Green River/Kentucky River Room.
‣ Mary McDonough, who played Erin in the TV series, “The Waltons,” will have “One Year.” She will speak in the Fountain Place Room at 10:15 a.m.
‣ Carol McCabe Booker is the editor of “Alone atop the Hill: The Autobiography of Alice Dunnigan, Pioneer of the National Black Press.” She will speak at 12:15 p.m.. in the Fountain Place Room.
Other authors of note include Wendell Berry, Kentucky Poet Laureate George Ella Lyon, Sallie Bingham, Robyn Peterman, Marcia Thornton Jones, Sharon McCrumb, Bobbie Ann Mason, David Arnold, and Alecia Whitaker.
