Twenhofel 8th grader selected Interlochen Arts Academy

Twenhofel 8th grader Robert Bau has been selected to attend the world-renown Interlochen Arts Academy this summer.

Interlochen only accepts the best music students in the world.
“This is an amazing and incredible accomplishment for Robert and his family – this is worthy of a ton of praise for him. I’m incredibly proud of Robert. I’ve never had a student selected to Interlochen before. Simply amazing,” said Jim Daughters, Twenhofel band director.

Each summer, over 2,500 students from all over the world come to Interlochen to study music, visual arts, theatre, film, dance and creative writing. Music students perform in the 3,900-seat Kresge Auditorium, the 950-seat Corson Auditorium, Dendrinos Chapel and Recital Hall, the historic Interlochen Bowl, and the new, open air Upton-Morley Pavilion, as well as other locations around our scenic, lakefront campus.

NKU MPA student named ‘outstanding’

Northern Kentucky University student Paula Brehm-Heeger has been named the 2016 Outstanding Student the American Society for Public Administration’s Greater Cincinnati Chapter (ASPA-GCC). She will be recognized at the ASPA-GCC luncheon on Friday, April 22, as well as at the Greater Cincinnati Public Service Recognition Celebration on Thursday, May 5.

She is Service Operations Director for the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and pursuing a graduate degree through NKU’s Master of Public Administration (MPA) program. She manages an $8.5 million budget, 515 full-time employees and a 500,000 square-foot main library and 40 branches.

In February, Brehm-Heeger was also a finalist in the annual NASPAA Student Simulation Competition, an international competition for public administration students. Brehm-Heeger was part of a team of students from Indiana University, the University of Kentucky, Ohio University, the University of Nebraska, and others. The team was among eight finalists in the international competition.

Five Boone students selected for Gatton Academy

Five students from the Boone County School District have been admitted to the upcoming class of The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science at Western Kentucky University.

The Gatton Academy selected a total of 100 Kentucky sophomores from 50 counties for the class of 2018. Boone County students are:

Margaret Cook (Ryle High School)
Jeraan Fernado ( Ryle High School)
Janki Naidugari (Cooper High School)
Ken Ryumae ( Ryle High School)
Morganne Williams (Cooper High School).

Selected students scored an average composite of 30.51 on the ACT and 29.88 on the mathematics portion of the exam. The highest possible score is a 36.

The goal of The Gatton Academy is to enable Kentucky’s exceptional young scientists and mathematicians to learn in an environment that offers advanced educational opportunities, preparing them for leadership roles in Kentucky and for competing in a knowledge-based economy by increasing the number of scientists and engineers who live and work in the state.
