According to a ‘Timely Warning System’ email sent to the NKU campus Thursday evening, a rape has been reported on the NKU campus.
The email warning said the incident actually occurred at the University’s Woodcraft Apartments between 1 and 4 a.m. Oct. 10 but was reported on Thursday. The suspect, it said, may live in University Suites.
Anyone witnessing suspicious activity was encouraged to report it to NKY police.
The incident was reported confidentially to the Norse Violence Prevention Center on Thursday, Lieutenant John Gaffin, interim chief of the NKU police department, said in the email.

The email reports: “The victim suspects the individual had been following or watching her. Through circumstances unknown to University Police, the suspect was in the victim’s dorm room with a third party.
“Upon the departure of the third party, the victim reports that she was sexually assaulted. No further information was provided to University Police as of the issuance of this Timely Warning.”
The email reminded students not to prop open exterior or interior residential doors or authorize entry to any unknown person.
So far, there is no official report to the NKU campus police. The report was made to the Norse Violence Prevention Center.
At an NKU board meeting in September, President Geoffrey Mearns said he was directing the university’s legal counsel to “engage Dinsmore, a major law firm in this region, to conduct an independent and comprehensive assessment of our policies and procedures related to sexual-based violence.” See the full remarks here.
