The Norse secured their first victory of the 2016-17 season, and the first of head coach Camryn Whitaker’s career, with a dominant 66-46 decision over Indiana University East on Saturday.
The Red Wolves were ranked No. 26 among NAIA Division II schools entering the contest. Junior forward Kasey Uetrecht led the team in scoring with 12 points and also added a pair of assists and six rebounds. The Norse had three players in double digits, with senior guard Shar’Rae Davis and Kelley Wiegman putting up 11 and 10 points, respectively. Freshman forward Hayley Combs stepped up in the contest, pulling down a team-best seven rebounds and swiping three steals while contributing a block for NKU. As a team, NKU out-rebounded the Red Wolves 41-26 and forced 24 turnovers that were converted into 25 points.

Though just two games into the season, the Norse’s next opponent, Ohio University, ranks in the top-50 nationally in a handful of statistical categories. The most impressive performance is from beyond the arc, as the Bobcats are No. 11 in 3-pointers per game with 10.5 triples a contest. The team also ranks 35th in field-goal percentage defense (30.8), 38th in scoring defense (51.5) and 45th in scoring margin (22.5).
The Norse have squared off with the Bobcats just once in program history, falling at home in a 77-38 setback on Nov. 25, 2014.
