Northern Kentucky’s flirtation with Tinseltown continued Wednesday, as scenes for the movie, The Old Man and the Gun, were shot at locations around Covington.

A crowd of onlookers were onsite outside of Lynna’s Grill at 38th Street and Winston Avenue in Latonia.

Most of the scenes were shot inside, but those who showed up were able to catch glimpses of two of the movie’s – and Hollywood’s – biggest stars.

Robert Redford and Danny Glover were shuttled into Lynna’s Grill quickly after arriving and despite the efforts of the film crew, some quick-shuttered fans were able to grab photos of the iconic actors.

The film also features Academy Award winners Casey Affleck and Sissy Spacek.

While Redford spent most of his time inside the restaurant, he did come to the door a few times. Glover spent several minutes outside the restaurant and waved to the crowd upon arrival.

Several in the crowd were excited to see a man who bore more than a passing resemblance to Redford speaking with crew members outside the restaurant prior to filming. On closer inspection, however, the man, who may have been a stand-in, was not the Oscar-winning actor and director.

The movie’s story involves an elderly bank robber (Redford), who has escaped from prison over a dozen times in his life before moving to a retirement community.

He wants to spice things up with another heist. The movie is a true story about criminal, Forrest Tucker and takes place in the early 1970’s.

The portion of the scenes most onlookers were able to see consisted of several vintage cars from the era driving past the restaurant and a group of extras exiting a bus.

Last week, the crew shot several scenes in Newport. Heritage Bank became Texas Loan & Commerce, and scenes were also shot at US Bank which became “Three Day Bank.”
