Emerging artists join forces to support Band of Helping Hands; concert series at Roebling Point

A new summer concert series is coming to Covington’s Roebling Point entertainment area in the effort of channeling emerging artists with community activism.

River City Jam will bring national and local bands to a stage on Court Street for the month-long series.

The series benefits Band of Helping Hands (BOHH), a Covington-based nonprofit organization whose mission is “Providing Possibilities and Opportunities for Children and Young Adults through Education, Music, Art, Athletics and Personal Growth Experiences.”

Marcus Alan Ward to appear August 5

The Band of Helping Hands focuses much of its efforts in Covington, supporting and funding activities for children and young adults by providing encouragement and experiences around the arts, education, athletics and personal growth. BOHH helps children and young adults faced with special needs, challenging home situations, medical complications and financial constraints. BOHH has helped hundreds of local children through its scholarship program, and will help hundreds more by partnering with schools and Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center.

BOHH also offers programs like “Change in Motion” for individuals who are thriving and breaking the cycles of poverty and addiction, and working or going to school and need a vehicle. Front man and founder of BOHH, Greg Mebs, believes that music saved him from a life of addiction, and the band uses their live music shows to raise money for their organization.

Several students from the BOHH music program will perform at this year’s event. River City Jam and participating artists will donate a portion of proceeds to the organization.

The River City Jam Concert Series runs Saturdays from August 5 through August 29. Doors open at 7 p.m. with performances beginning at 8 p.m. All shows are free and open to all ages.
