The Horizon League announced Wednesday that Northern Kentucky University baseball standout Will Haueter is the male recipient of the league’s Cecil N. Coleman Medal of Honor.
Kori Waelbroeck from IUPUI earned the award on the women’s side.
Coleman is responsible for much of the success the league enjoys today, including his work to secure automatic qualification for the Horizon League in baseball and men’s basketball. Coleman received the NACDA James J. Corbett award in 1985, recognizing his achievement in the field.
“Congratulations to Will on being named the recipient of the Cecil N. Coleman Medal of Honor,” said head coach Todd Asalon. “Will is an outstanding role model on the field and in the classroom, and he is also very involved with NKU’s student-athlete advisory committee and many community service projects that the baseball team participates in each year.”
“Winning this award is special because of the great student-athletes across the Horizon League,” said Haueter. “To be in the conversation is great in itself, but to stand out amongst my peers and win the award is a humbling feeling. This award is also special for me because I take pride in making the people who have helped me along the way proud. Any award I receive reflects the work they have done to push me forward in a positive direction.”
Haueter batted for a .360 average this season, which ranked first in the Horizon League. He also was second in the league in doubles (19), on-base percentage (.451) and slugging percentage (.600). Haueter now has 46 doubles in his career, which is fifth all-time in the NKU record book. He earned 2018 All-Horizon League first team honors for his efforts.
In addition to his on-the-field accomplishments, Haueter was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. He was also selected to the Horizon League All-Academic Team for the second year in a row. Haueter received the U.S. Bank/Haile School of Business Most Outstanding Student in Finance award and NKU’s prestigious Regents Award.
He maintained a perfect 4.0 during his undergraduate career and recently graduated with a degree in finance.
