The Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team visited the University of Cincinnati on Sunday night for the third annual Riverboat Rivalry contest, and the Bearcats pulled out a 1-0 victory in overtime at Gettler Stadium.
Jill Vetere scored the only goal of the contest at the 98:46 mark, giving UC (3-1) the win. Dee Picou began the winning play with a corner kick from the right side, and Vetere finished it with a shot from across the box that found the net in the bottom right corner.
A year ago, UC also posted a 1-0 victory over NKU in Highland Heights. The Bearcats are now 3-0 all-time against NKU, with all three victories by identical 1-0 scores.
UC finished with a big edge in shots (18-6) and corner kicks (10-0), but the Bearcats were unable to find the back of the net in regulation. NKU goalie Emily Lohmann stopped six shots.
UC goalie Madison Less finished with three saves and collected the shutout as the Bearcats defeated a Horizon League member for the second time in three days. On Friday, UC had posted a 2-0 victory against Wright State at Gettler Stadium.
NKU (2-2) travels to Athens, Ohio, on Friday to meet Ohio U. at 4 p.m. The Norse’s next home contest is on Sept. 6, when Lipscomb visits Highland Heights for a 7 p.m. game.
