By Marcia Thomas
Candidate for District Court Judge
My name is Marcia Thomas and I am a candidate for District Court Judge for Boone and Gallatin Counties. I am running for this judicial position because I am committed and dedicated to serving the citizens of the communities that we all call home.
Public service is my passion. I have been serving our community as an Assistant Boone County Attorney since 1997. In this position, my daily duties are focused in District Court. For the last 20 years, I have been committed to the safety and security of our community.

As a District Court Judge, I will continue my hard work and remain dedicated to the citizens I will serve.
My pursuit of a legal career was far from the traditional path. I was married at 17 and a young mother. I did not enter college until I was 25 and I had four children under the age of 7. With the help of my husband, and with hard work, I graduated at the top of my class and with Presidential Honors.
Because of my commitment to public service I decided my best path was to attend law school. I entered Chase College of Law in 1990. As a full-time student, I sometimes had my children with me in class. It was difficult but a very rewarding experience. I have remained an active advocate for education, obtaining two Masters Degrees over the past 4 years.
I began my public service while I was still in law school by working as a Deputy Circuit Court Clerk. Upon passing the bar exam, I opened my own private practice and began my legal journey. During that time, I handled many types of cases; criminal defense, family law, personal injury and probate. In 1997, I was able to return to public service when I was offered an opportunity at the Boone County Attorney’s Office as an Assistant.
As an Assistant County Attorney my responsibilities include many areas of District Court practice. I handle thousands of traffic, misdemeanor and felony cases a year. I am responsible for these cases from arraignment to the trial or preliminary hearing stage of the case. I also cover mental health hearings and Casey’s Law hearings. In addition, I have been the lead prosecutor for Boone County Child Support enforcement and the lead criminal juvenile court prosecutor.
For over 20 years I have been serving our community. I am the only candidate that has been on the front line fighting the drug epidemic challenging our families.
I have the hands-on experience necessary to serve as your next District Court Judge. My record of service demonstrates my commitment and my personal stake in our community.
Experience matters. I believe my life experience, my dedication to the community, and my commitment to public service, all make me the best choice on November 6th.
In May, I won the primary election, obtaining the most votes in both Boone and Gallatin Counties. I received the most important endorsement a candidate can receive, from you, the voters.
I humbly ask for your vote again on November 6th.
I have known and worked Marcia Thomas through my years of service as a Court Designated Worker in Boone and Gallatin Counties! My position allowed me to have a close professional relationship with her regarding juvenile court matters. Marcia Thomas is dedicated, intelligent, and resourceful in attempting to find a good resolution to the juvenile’s problems, while still having a great understanding of the issues that the parents’ are going through. She looks at both sides of a problem, and I have always appreciated that in her, while not always in agreement. Marcia Thomas has an excellent temperament, which is a necessary attribute for any Judge! For this and many other reasons, I am supporting and will vote for Marcia Thomas on November 6 for District Court Judge in the 54th Judicial District (Boone and Gallatin Counties).
P.S. This race has only two choices. It should not be confused with the Family Court Judicial race which has numerous individuals running!
I had the pleasure of working with Marcia when she was a deputy clerk and an assistant county attorney for over 20 years in the court system. I worked for the District Court Judges and worked with Marcia on a daily basis. Marcia was always fair and tough when needed. She is one of the hardest working people I know in her professional and personal life. Marcia will be a great Judge with experience in every aspect of district court.
I’ve worked with Marcia for about 10 years in my role as a criminal defense attorney. I believe that she would make an excellent judge. While we are always on opposite sides, I feel that she is both fair and reasonable in her role as a prosecutor. I think she would make a fine judge
