Ryle senior golfer charges up the leaderboard in final round to tie for 12th place in state tournament

Ryle senior Olivia DiPaolo shot a 3-over 75 in the second round of the girls state golf tournament on Wednesday and moved up 26 spots on the leaderboard to tie for 12th place in the final standings at Bowling Green Country Club.

DiPaolo, who shot an 83 in Tuesday’s opening round, had a two-day total of 158. She finished eight strokes behind medalist Laney Frye of Lexington Christian, who topped the leaderboard at 72-74-146.

In the final round, DiPaolo shot even-par 36 with three birdies on the front nine. She was 1-over going into the last par-5 hole, but she ended with a double-bogey to finish at 3-over.

Ryle slipped from ninth to 11th in the final team standings and finished with a 718 total. The other scoring golfers for the Raiders were  Sophia DiPaolo (170), Caitlyn Richardson (176) and Grace Grant (214).

Lexington Christian won the state championship trophy with a 639 team total, followed by Louisville Sacred Heart with a 647.

Olivia DiPaolo received a $500 scholarship from Leachman Buick/GMC/Cadillac, sponsors of the state golf tournament. The annual scholarship is awarded to a senior participant based on academics, athletic participation and community service. She also received a commemorative bag tag and golf towel from the corporate sponsors.
