NKU men’s basketball team to visit U.S. Virgin Islands in August, play three games on summer tour

The Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will embark on a summer tour in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, providing the Norse with an opportunity to play several contests on the hardwood while also experiencing the local culture.

NKU departs for the trip on Aug. 6 and returns Aug. 11.

“One of the biggest benefits of a foreign trip is the additional time you get to spend together as a program,” said NKU head coach Darrin Horn, who is entering his first season with the Norse. “This is especially important for us as we transition. Not only does it help on the court in terms of additional practice time and competition, but it also helps build team chemistry.”

NKU will compete in three games split between the University of the Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands National Team during the trip. In between competitions, the Norse will spend time in a variety of team-building, educational and experiential activities in and around St. Thomas.

NKU posted a 26-9 record this past season and captured the Horizon League championship. The Norse advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years and lost to eventual national runner-up Texas Tech in the first round.
