The Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers (KSPE) is sponsoring another exciting year of MATHCOUNTS. All interested middle school students, their parents, and their teachers are encouraged to take part in the 2019-2020 MATHCOUNTS Competition Series.
MATHCOUNTS is a national program that starts with students and educators, in their schools. It is a program that stimulates interest in mathematics and science among 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students, promoting math achievement with all the challenges of a school sports event.
The students have the opportunity to compete in local, state, and national competitions. Great prizes will be awarded at all levels, including collegiate scholarships to the University of Kentucky, the University of Louisville, and Western Kentucky University.
Educators or students interested in a MATHCOUNTS club can start with the many free resources available at this website. Schools can send up to 10 students to the competition in Northern Kentucky.
The registration deadline is December 14, 2019.
The MATHCOUNTS Competition Series is a fantastic opportunity for students and for the teachers who coach them. The preparation for the competitions will promote math achievement for each student involved, while the competition event itself allows your students to meet students from other schools with similar interests. It is sure to be an exciting experience for all students and coaches.
The KSPE Chapter Competition will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at Northern Kentucky University.
The KSPE State Competition will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020, in Bowling Green, Kentucky at Western Kentucky University. Advancing students from the chapter competitions and their coaches will be provided with hotel rooms and some meals.
As part of the local Chapter Competition, the coaches of the first, second, and third-place teams will receive gift certificates and in February, there is a lottery drawing for $1,000 for the team coaches.
