It’s been a smooth transition from the NCAA to the NAIA for Scott High School graduate Jake Ohmer, who ignited a huge Georgetown (Ky.) rally on Saturday night.
Ohmer netted 17 of his team-high 24 points in the second half as Georgetown erased a 12-point deficit to knock off Washington Adventist (Md.), 88-82, at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym. Nico Clareth added 15 of his 20 points in the second half for top-ranked Georgetown (4-0), the defending NAIA national champion.
Ohmer, who transferred to Georgetown after spending two years at Western Kentucky, shot 7-for-12 from the field and buried a trio of 3-pointers. He also dished out three assists in 33 minutes of action.
For the season, Ohmer averages 20.0 points per game and is shooting 59.4 percent from the field. He is 9-for-17 from 3-point range and has converted 86.7 percent of his free throws.
While a prep standout at Scott High School, Ohmer averaged 27.8 points and 8.4 rebounds per game as a senior. He scored a school-record 2,705 career points for the Eagles.
The Taylor Mill native became a crowd favorite at the Sweet 16 in Lexington, scoring 106 points during three games – the 13th-most ever scored in a single Kentucky state tournament – while leading Scott to the semifinals in Rupp Arena.
Ohmer, a 6-foot-1 guard, appeared in 28 games for Western Kentucky last season and averaged 1.6 points per contest. As a freshman two years ago, he saw action in 37 games and averaged 5.6 points.
During his freshman season, Ohmer scored a career-high 15 points off the bench in an upset of nationally ranked Purdue at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas. The following day, he buried a 3-pointer late in the game as Western Kentucky defeated SMU.
Georgetown plays host to Midway (Ky.) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
