The Campbell County boys basketball team that ended the first two months of the season with a losing record reached the semifinals of the 10th Region tournament with a 66-34 win over Paris in a first-round game on Thursday at Holmes High School.
It was the 12th straight win for the Camels (20-10) and they advance to the region semifinals for the sixth consecutive year. Their opponent at 7:45 p.m. Monday will be the Bracken County Polar Bears (23-9), who won a double-overtime game against Harrison County, 63-60, in the first round.

Bracken County defeated Campbell County, 75-73, in a regular season game on Jan. 4. That was one of seven games the Camels lost by seven points or less when they had an 8-10 record before going on their current win streak.
Campbell County jumped ahead 8-0 in the game against Paris and led the rest the way. The Camels were on top 29-12 at halftime and had seven players in the scorebook. The team leader at the break was junior forward Des Davie with six of his eight points coming on baskets following offensive rebounds.
Paris got off to a good start in the third quarter and quickly cut the margin to 30-20, but Campbell County scored 14 straight points to extend its lead to 44-20. Freshman guard Garyn Jackson hit a pair of 3-pointers during that 14-0 run.
The Camels entered the fourth quarter with a 27-point lead (51-24) and officials started a running clock when the margin reached 36 points (62-26) with less than four minutes remaining.
Campbell County had four double-figure scorers in the victory. Davie led the way with 14 points, followed by Jackson, junior forward Aydan Hamilton and junior guard Jake Gross with 10 each. Davie also had 20 rebounds to post his eighth double-double during his team’s 12-game win streak.
The Camels have done a good job defensively during the win streak, holding seven of their 12 opponents to 51 points or less. In the region semifinal against Bracken County, they’ll try to contain brothers Blake and Cayden Reed, who are averaging 28.6 and 17.6 points, respectively.
In Bracken County’s regular season win over Campbell County, Blake had 38 points and Cayden had 18 to account for 56 of their team’s 75-point total. Davie had 35 points and 20 rebounds for the Camels in that game.
