The City of Taylor Mill is growing rapidly. Our population is now around 7,000, and that growth will continue into the 2025 and 2026 fiscal years.
As Taylor Mill continues to grow, it’s essential that our residents know that their local government is working to secure the City’s future.
Over the last two years, the current City Commission has served the community well by continuing to prioritize housing, safety, economic growth, mobility, and community.
New Housing
Two hundred and thirty-four new housing units will be built in Taylor Mill, most of which will occur in the Tuscany Development. 67 units have already been sold and occupied with an additional 113 units planned within the next year. An additional 18 homes will be added at the Reserves of Taylor Mill, and the continued development of 44 new building lots in High Ridge Park will provide continued growth for the City.
Safety
Taylor Mill is one of the safest Cities in Kentucky. We are proud of our Fire/EMS, Police, and Public Works Departments. As the City grows, we continue to enhance our City services.
Construction began on the new fire station in October. The Commission voted to build a new firehouse and expand its EMS services, decrease response time, aid employee retention of full-time EMS first responders, and help us remain competitive in recruitment. The new facility will serve the citizens of Taylor Mill for decades to come.
Our Public Works Department will benefit from the new firehouse. The old firehouse bays will be utilized to store expensive equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, and snowplows, which will be housed inside for the first time ever.
We continue to ensure the Taylor Mill Police Department is well-funded and has the up-to-date equipment and training needed to retain our exclusive International CALEA Accreditation, making Taylor Mill one of only three such departments in Kentucky.
Economic Growth
To continue to meet the needs of the City’s residents, we are also looking to expand service-based and commercial development, such as restaurants, convenience shops. Developments like the new Heekin Animal Clinic, currently under construction next to the new St. Elizabeth physician’s clinic are great examples of retaining and attracting local businesses to provide conveniences to our residents.
To facilitate industrial development in the City’s Decoursey and Locust Pike areas, the Commission applied for and received a $500,000 Grant from the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority for a sewer study with the help of Senator Chris McDaniel. This grant is the first step in preparing for future development and providing opportunities for two existing companies to expand and increase jobs. The city commission will seek additional grants to assist with funding the sewer expansion.
Mobility
From creating a five-year street plan that outlines the yearly maintenance needed to maintain good streets to the Taylor Mill Sidewalk Project, which will be completed in 2025, your City government is working with you and your family’s future in mind.
The City has completed work in the North Taylor Mill (Winston Park) area, where all streets were repaired and completed in 2019. The plan for 2024 currently works toward streets such as Taylor Creek Drive, McCowan, Maple Ridge Drive, Hunter Ridge Ln, and Saddlebrook.
Community
The City Commission continues to prioritize enhancements to Pride Park, the gem of our City, to provide beautiful outdoor space for the residents and build a greater sense of community. The new Pride Park Pavilion was completed this year and thanks to the Taylor Mill Volunteer Firefighter Association, a new Firefighter Memorial was dedicated in 2023.
All these improvements are necessary for a growing city. With a continued resident-focused approach and clear direction on services and economic development, we can build a bright future for Taylor Mill.
City Commissioners Dan Murray, Caroline Braden, Ed Kuehne, Mark Kreimborg, and I have always worked together in the best interest of residents. As a group, we made decisions that benefit residents in the short and long term.
The future is bright for Taylor Mill, and the city commission continues to focus on being a city “Taylored with Pride.”
