Salzer, Walter, Sagers all earn All-PAC first-team softball honors for Thomas More


Thomas More College had five student-athletes named to the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball All-Conference team following a vote by the conference’s 10 head coaches.

Junior pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry), junior shortstop Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) and freshman utility player Sammy Sagers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) were all named first team All-PAC.

Salzer has a 2.30 earned run average and a 16-9 record in the pitching circle as she has pitched 167.2 innings and has struck out 118 batters. At the plate, she is batting .346 with a team-leading 30 runs batted-in and 11 doubles and three home runs.

Walter leads the team in batting with a .375 average with a team-best 18 doubles, two triples, one home run and 19 RBI. In the field she has a .926 fielding percentage with 44 putouts and 82 assists.

Sagers is hitting .355 with 19 RBI, eight doubles, one triple and one home run. She has a .886 fielding percentage with 13 putouts and 18 assists.

Senior outfielder Catie Luck (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) and freshman outfielder Laura Finke (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) were named to the All-PAC second team. Luck has started all 41 games for the Saints and has a .248 batting average with 16 RBI, seven doubles, two triples and two home runs. In the field she has a .958 fielding percentage with 46 putouts.

Finke is second on the team in batting with a .346 average as she has nine RBI, four doubles and one home run. She is eight-for-nine in stolen base attempts and has a .936 fielding percentage.

The Saints have a 26-15 record as the head into the NCAA Division III Softball Championship’s Greencastle, Indiana regional as the 2015 PAC Champions. The Saints will play fifth-ranked Trine University on Friday (May 8) at 1 p.m. in a first round game.
