NKY Community Action Commission gets Innovative Nonprofit Award from KY Nonprofit Network

The Kentucky Nonprofit Network has awarded Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission (NKCAC) with the 2017 Innovative Nonprofit Award.

This award recognizes an organization that implements inventive, nontraditional programs or methods that effectively meet community needs.

NKCAC won the Innovative Nonprofit Award for its Lincoln Grant Scholar House – an initiative providing supportive housing and vital educational and family services for low-income single parent families. Lincoln Grant Scholar House enables residents – many of them first generation college students – to find success in their quest for self-reliance. All residents receive counseling and support while fulfilling academic or vocational training coursework as full-time college students.

“It is quite an honor to be recognized by the Kentucky Nonprofit Network for our work to establish the Lincoln Grant Scholar House,” says Florence Tandy, Executive Director of NKCAC. “It’s been so rewarding to see a building with a deeply rooted history as Covington’s first black school being reborn to continue to transform lives as a Scholar House, providing educational services for single parent families.”

Kentucky Nonprofit Network has also recognized Cyndee Burton, administrator of Matthew 25 AIDS Services of Henderson with the 2017 Distinguished Nonprofit Leadership Award, and Erica Horn, board chair of GleanKY in Lexington, with 2017 Outstanding Board Leadership Award.

Winners will be recognized at the 15th annual Kentucky Nonprofit Leadership Forum on October 25 in Lexington. The Leadership Forum is the only statewide gathering of Kentucky’s nonprofit leaders, providing attendees the opportunity to gain the skills needed to effectively lead their organizations.
