Highlands and Notre Dame will meet in the championship game of the 9th Region fast-pitch softball tournament for the second consecutive year.
Highlands defeated Conner, 6-0, and Notre Dame edged Ryle, 2-1, in regional semifinal games on Wednesday to set up the rematch. The title game will be played at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Northern Kentucky University with the winner advancing to next week’s state tournament.
Last year, Highlands defeated Notre Dame, 8-7, in the regional championship game. In a regular-season game played two weeks ago, Notre Dame came away with a 2-1 win.
In regional baseball action on Wednesday, Collins defeated Simon Kenton in the 8th Region semifinals. The 10th Region semifinals had to be postponed due to rain so the Scott vs. Clark County game was re-scheduled for 8 p.m. Thursday.
