The Scott girls’ basketball team got off to shaky start in the 10th Region championship game on Saturday and wasn’t able to overcome it, losing to Clark County, 69-58, at Mason County Fieldhouse.

This is the third time in four years that Clark County has knocked off Scott in the regional playoffs. The teams met in the first round last year and the semifinals in 2015. Two years ago, Campbell County beat Scott in the regional final.

In Saturday’s game, the Eagles trailed, 34-18, at the start of the second half. They pulled to within seven points in the third quarter and nine points in the fourth quarter, but Clark County was able to stop both rallies.

Clark County shot 53 percent (25 of 47) from the field compared to Scott’s 42 percent (21 of 50). The Cardinals also won the battle on the boards, 34-22, and outscored the Eagles, 21-6, from behind the 3-point line.

Senior guard Anna Clephane scored 27 points in her last game for Scott. Junior guard Summer Secrist had 20 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Eagles, who finish with a 19-15 record.
