Florence Fire/EMS is proud to announce that we have received a grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The $31,429 grant will provide funding for 12 sets of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which includes coats and pants.
In 2005, the Firehouse Subs founders established the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation with the mission of providing funding, life-saving equipment, and educational opportunities to first-responders and public safety organizations.
Due to the increased carcinogens found as byproducts of combustion in modern building materials, it has become paramount for firefighters to possess a 2nd set of structural firefighting gear that can be utilized as a backup, while the primary set is being cleaned of contaminants and carcinogens.
The toxic byproducts absorbed in these sets of gear during fires, render them unsafe to any wearer for prolonged periods and they should be cleaned immediately following the event. Having a 2nd set of gear for our firefighters to transition into will allow for this level of safety.
This grant will help protect firefighters from the cancer risk that they may encounter and will drastically reduce the means of exposure on a fire scene to firefighters.
The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation grant is an important step for Florence Fire/EMS to better protect our firefighters. We are very happy and pleased that we were granted this award.
Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has granted more than $33 million to hometown heroes in 46 states, Puerto Rico and Canada, including more than $459,000 in Kentucky.
