Notre Dame’s season came to an end Friday morning with a 2-1 loss to Estill County in the loser’s bracket of the Worth/KHSAA State Softball Tournament in Owensboro.
All of the scoring was done in the first inning. Notre Dame took a 1-0 lead when sophomore catcher Kennedy Baugh came home on a sacrifice fly by senior pitcher Haylee Smith. But two Notre Dame fielding errors in the bottom of the first enabled Estill County to score two unearned runs.
Estill County got its only hit off Smith in the first innning. She had six strikeouts and one walk in the final game of her high school career. The Pandas’ three hits were singles by Smith, Alecia Radford and Lindsey Meier.
Notre Dame finishes the season with a 28-6-1 record. Smith was the only senior on the Pandas’ roster. The other eight starters will be returning next season.
